About Us - Local Links

THE COLLEGE AND THE COMMUNITY

The college has long-standing links with primary schools, secondary schools, Higher Education institutions and the wider community. The college has an ethos of aspiration and achievement which has seen it double in size over the past decade. In the same period our links with our educational and the wider community have grown apace. We believe that the latter precedes and influences the former.

The college has developed high quality, diverse ways of working with primary schools, secondary schools and universities to raise and sustain aspirations of all learners. We use our strong links with schools and Higher Education to make connections and create partnerships in which we work together to engage and inspire young people. Our excellence in school/college partnerships has been recognised by an Association of Colleges Beacon Award.

The college also has strong links with a whole range of statutory, voluntary and commercial organisations, including the local authority, the Health Authority and Primary Care Trust, Humberside Police and Rescue Services and many other bodies. This enables us to provide excellent support to students in developing their personal, emotional, social, mental, physical, spiritual and academic wellbeing.

CORUS

Corus Links Scheme

Up to 20 science students benefit from a prestigious link scheme with Corus each year.

Set up in the 1980s to try to encourage more students to study engineering and science subjects, the scheme allows students to undertake a five-week research project at the steel plant during their summer break.

The projects they address involve real problems or developmental issues within technical and engineering departments and result in oral and written reports to managers.
