International Students - Tuition Fees and Expenses

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for an international student starting a full-time course in September 2010 will be £5600* per College year.

*The fees for a student transferring to the college for the A2 year after completing AS in another UK college will be £5850. This is to cover the extra administration necessary in the change of exam boards.

The fees will remain fixed at this level for the second [or third] year of a student's course. There will be no increase.

Payment of these fees admits a student to a full-time course of study. The precise details of the course will be negotiated with the student. The student has potential access to any course of study offered by the College to local U.K. students.

The fees include:

  • access to any GCSE, A-Level or Applied A-Level course offered by the College which is appropriate for the student;
  • tuition in classes alongside local U.K. students;
  • special help with English Language, if needed;
  • access to any Enrichment Studies offered by the College [a wide range of vocational and recreational activities including music and sport];
  • tutorial support and guidance from a Personal Tutor;
  • full careers advice and guidance in applying to U.K. universities or elsewhere;
  • access to the College Library and other central learning facilities such as computer resources;
  • loan of essential textbooks;
  • access to interpreters, if needed;
  • extra medical insurance [http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/]

Other college expenses may or will include:

  • Locker key deposit: a small deposit charged at enrolment.
  • Student Union fee: students asked to contribute a small sum to join the Student Union.
  • Optional expenses: may be incurred by students for academic visits, fieldwork or practical materials.
  • Exam fees: these are currently around £200 per year, depending on subject choices, plus the IELTS fee (if taken), currently £105.

Payment of Tuition Fees

Full payment [£5,600] to be paid into the college bank account by 17 August 2010.
Payment of tuition fees is required before the start of the John Leggott course.

Please choose one of following payment methods:

1. Direct bank transfer to the John Leggott College bank account:

Full details of the College bank account will be sent to students who have been offered a place.

Please ensure that the amount paid includes all charges for transmission, both in your own country and in the UK.

2. Sterling Cheque (or Bankers’ Draft) drawn on a British bank, made payable to John Leggott College and sent direct to:

Maggie Williamson, John Leggott College, West Common Lane, Scunthorpe, DN17 1DS, UK.

Late or non-payment of Fees

A surcharge of 5% per calendar month or part thereof may be added to bills not paid by the due date.

Students who are unable to pay their fees by the due date must inform the college at the earliest opportunity. Every effort will be made by the College to help the student.

Scholarships

Scholarships have been negotiated with key partner schools. Other limited scholarships may be available. Further details are available on request.

Accommodation and living expenses

Host family: Payment will be required for the cost of the lodgings [rent, food and heat]. The cost per week from September 2010 is £95. This will include half-board [breakfast and evening meal] on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and full board [all meals] at weekends and during holidays. The payments will be made directly to the host family.

Rented property: Rented accommodation may be possible [for students aged 18 and over only] with the help and approval of the College, and the permission of their parents. The cost of the rent per week will vary but is likely to be about £70. Students will be responsible for their own living costs for food, heat and lighting.
It is worth noting that the Scunthorpe area is much cheaper in terms of rent and living costs than many areas of the UK, especially those areas closer to London. The charges for accommodation may increase during the student's course.
