Former Pupil, Tom Arthur - Huntcliff School, Kirton Lindsey
As a Student Ambassador Tom can often be found welcoming visitors to events at John Leggott College and talking to school pupils about college life. He is currently in his first year at college studying maths, physics, chemistry and biology with the aim to go onto veterinary college. He also takes part in sign language and debating club extension studies. He said: “I would recommend JLC to anyone looking for further education as it has the perfect learning environment for young people such as myself.”
, Abi Buckman - North Axholme School,
Student Ambassador Abi Buckman has her sights set on becoming a psychotherapist, journalist or solicitor and is using her time at college to gain as much experience as she can to set her on the right path. She is studying psychology, sociology, law and English language and literature as well as taking a first aid short course and representing the College at a variety of events. “The atmosphere’s great at John Leggott College,” she said.
Former Pupil, Aaron Emmett - Holy Family School, Carlton
The social aspect of college combined with the academic excellence on offer is what Aaron Emmett likes about John Leggott College. Aaron is studying psychology, biology and philosophy and is hoping to study a psychology degree at the University of Lincoln after completing his college courses. Alongside his academic subjects Aaron likes taking part in enrichment activities including first aid and media production. "I like the freedom of college and the availability of resources as they allow easy access to any information I need," he said.

Being part of the College’s telescope team, being principal flute in the College orchestra and wind band and volunteering as a student ambassador are just some of Alistair’s achievements at John Leggott College. This is in addition to his studies in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics. “I really like the fact that you are treated like an adult,” he said. “You are expected to manage your own time including study periods and meet deadline to maximise your potential. You are responsible for your own learning.”
Pupil, Rebekah Hather - South Axholme School, Epworth
Alongside her studies in maths, economics, psychology and critical thinking, Rebekah was voted Chair of the Student Union for the second year running. She will work with other Executive Officers in a bid to raise money for charity and organise student celebrations. "We want to make sure all the current students get involved in college life and enjoy their time at John Leggott College," Rebekah said.
, Rachael Hornsby - Queen Elizabeth's High School,
Budding scientist Rachael Hornsby has taken advantage of the many overseas trips run by John Leggott College to meet new people and experience new things. “The best thing about John Leggott College is the opportunity to experience new things and meet so many new people,” she said. “I have been on amazing trips to Iceland and Belgium and the Student Union organise some fantastic parties.” Rachael is studying A Levels in biology, geography, French, English language & literature and general studies as well as AS Extended Project. She is also applying to study natural sciences at university.
, Matthew Jenkins - Melior Community College,
Matthew helped a team of John Leggott College young economists bank a place in the regional final of a national competition. Alongside three of his class mates he argued for the Bank of England to maintain interest rates and begin quantitative easing to meet Government inflation targets. The competition and his studies in maths, further maths, economics, law, general studies and extended project are all helping him to prepare for his chosen career path. “My future plans are to go to uni to study economics, do a masters and then become and economic/investment consultant,” he said. “The College is helping me as it has fantastic teaching and research facilities.”
Pupil, Leanne Mumby - Frederick Gough School, Scunthorpe
The friendly atmosphere at JLC is what student magazine editor Leanne thinks is making her time at John Leggott College so enjoyable. A budding journalist, Leanne has just taken over as the leader of the VIVA Magazine and she hopes it will give her valuable experience in the area of work she hopes to progress into. Leanne is also studying A2 English Language and Literature, A2 Sociology and BTEC National Certificate in Media Studies. She said: "The tutors are friendly at JLC and there are lots of opportunities for learning and extra activities outside of lessons.”
, Nicole Ridley - Holy Family School,
Aspiring historian Nicole is studying English combined, history, sociology and politics at college as well as being an active member of the Duke of Edinburgh Award enrichment group. She is hoping to study history at university at the end of her A Level studies and said she is finding John Leggott College a very friendly place. “As well as having cheap food and friendly staff – John Leggott College makes you feel welcome straight away,” she said.
, Kanis Tang - International Student, From Hong Kong
6000 miles from her home and family in Hong Kong, Kanis is beginning to get settled in to life in England. Attending college every day, taking AS Levels in biology, chemistry, physics and maths, she has already taken part in charity events such as the Humber Bridge walk for the British Heart Foundation and managed to raise over £60 for charity! "The tutors here are really nice and they will help you in any circumstances which makes you feel at home," she said. "The advice you can get from your tutors is really useful. With perfect resources, JLC is a stepping-stone to get into university."
