Under 18 selection for JLC cricketer
First year John Leggott College student Scott Ewan has his mind set on a career in sport after recently returning from Malta to represent the country’s Under 18 cricket team.
Scott, who progressed to JLC from South Axholme Academy, was spotted by the Maltese coach as he trained locally.
“My grandma is Maltese and I have a link with the team. Once I was spotted, getting into the team was organised pretty quickly, so they got me to go over to Malta play with them,” says Scott.
The first year student, who is studying A Level Biology, A Level Chemistry, A Level Maths and Btec PE at John Leggott, saying training at college has helped with his career so far.
“There have been lots of practical aspects for the PE course, so strength and conditioning has been key (to my training) and being part of the college football team has helped me to keep fit.”
Advice for other budding sportspeople “go down to your local club and get involved, start practicing,” says Scott.
The experience has really encouraged Scott to look at his options post-JLC “I want to study physiotherapy at university. In the first year at college at the moment, so thinking about options and Liverpool is a strong contender for my uni choice.”
However Scott also has aspirations to make it into the Maltese men’s’ team.
“It was amazing (going to Malta), it’s a really nice country, beautiful. This was the first time I have been over there and I think I am going back this summer to play some more games to qualify for the mens’ team.”
