College students ‘bucking the trend’ of decreasing University applications
Following the news that applications to study at British universities have fallen for the first time, since fees trebled to £9,000 a year, John Leggott College students are bucking the trend with a 10% increase in 2016.
The Opportunities and Destinations Team, based in a dedicated hub at the college, work alongside students to provide bespoke support with their UCAS applications including tips to refine personal statements and mock interview sessions. They are also on-hand to help facilitate work experience opportunities for students around the region, find an apprenticeship or secure a job following their studies at John Leggott College.
For students who are focussed on studying for a University degree, our Progression Mentors are paired with each student to ensure they complete a strong application, submit it correctly and on time, and then to help with the process of preparing for interviews and accepting offers. Contrary to the latest statistics published recently, stating that there is a sharp decline in applications to British universities, for the 2016 cycle John Leggott College saw a 10% increase in applications from the previous year.
Matthew Downes, Progression Manager at John Leggott College, said “It’s encouraging that our students continue to be motivated to apply to University, alongside other students who move onto apprenticeships or secure jobs straight after leaving college. More than a quarter of our students who applied in the 2016 cycle also accepted a place at a world-class Russell Group University.”
John Leggott College continues to lead the way in North Lincolnshire, delivering over 60 courses from Chemistry to Geology, Psychology to Dance, and many more.
