BTEC Applied Science First Award (Level 2)


What will I learn?

Principles of Applied Science is designed for students with an interest in the practical applications of Science, where the assessment will be largely in the form of research and practical investigations, along with a small examination assessment. The course covers the essential principles of Science, including: electricity, atomic Physics, populations, inheritance, chemical properties, and Ecology. 

Entry Requirements

Students must have an interest in the practical applications of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

How long will it take to qualify?

One year

How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed by coursework (75%) and an exam (25%)

Students at JLC have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of additional opportunities, trips, visits, enrichments, clubs and societies

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is taken by students on a one-year programme as well as by students on a two-year (Advanced) programme who need to improve their science qualifications.

What next?

This course may lead onto progression to the level 3 BTEC, with other course requirements, or employment where a level 2 attainment in Science is required.
