English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

English for Speakers of a second language at John Leggott College.

What will I learn?

Our ESOL courses are designed for people who are not native speakers and want to improve their use of and understanding of English. These courses will help students to develop and practise their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You will be able to progress through the ESOL levels as you wish, improve your understanding of British culture and gain the opportunity to further your career. Additionally, our ESOL course can be used as a bridge into further education in the UK and progress to additional courses at John Leggott College.

Course Content

The course covers grammar and vocabulary and all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Learning Methods

Work is undertaken in a classroom environment communicating with teachers and the other students, sometimes in pairs, small groups or as a whole class.

How will I be assessed?

To successfully complete this course, learners must complete an oral speaking and listening, reading and writing exam.

Additional Learning Opportunities

You could supplement your studies with any of the additional activities that complement your studies such as web design, Duke of Edinburgh, First Aid and more.

What next?

This course enables you to progress to the next level of the ESOL course and will prove your English language competency for access onto higher levels of study. Additionally the course will help you to progress onto other curriculum areas at the college.
