From local college to fourth best University in the world Ryan’s interview!

Ryan Walker, aspiring Veterinary Medicine student from John Leggott College, has this week completed the second stage of his journey towards enrolling at The University of Cambridge with an intensive interview process.
Ryan, originally from Huntcliff School, was invited to interview at the University after receiving support from the Opportunities & Destinations team at John Leggott College. His Progression Mentor, Laura Warburton, provided guidance on his personal statement and application, and also conducted a series of mock interviews to help Ryan feel comfortable in an interview situation.
After submitting his application to study Veterinary Medicine at The University of Cambridge, Ryan was delighted to be offered an interview with the Course Director and a course tutor, and travelled down to Cambridge with his Grandparents this week.
Ryan said “The interview process was a completely surreal experience. My interview was with two members of staff from the Veterinary Medicine department, followed by a really intense and difficult series of subject-specific questions. I felt so nervous, and although the people who interviewed me were welcoming and friendly, it was hard to gauge how I performed and whether I will be successful or not!”
After an opportunity to explore the campus around Cambridge, Ryan will now continue his studies at John Leggott College while he awaits confirmation of whether he has secured a place at this prestigious University. He has completed a series of work experience placements to help support his application and give him an insight into his chosen career as a Vet. The Opportunities and Destinations team at John Leggott College set up placements for Ryan including a two-week position at a local Veterinary Practice where he shadowed a working Vet, assisted with appointments and observed surgeries.
Ryan now has to endure the nervous wait to hopefully receive a letter confirming his place at The University of Cambridge, to study his dream career in Veterinary Medicine. His motivation throughout his time at Huntcliff School, and his studies at John Leggott College, have been entirely focussed on achieving his goals. Ryan’s tutors and the support staff at John Leggott College have supplemented this by providing the encouragement and guidance to help Ryan achieve the top grades, work experience and confidence required to study at the fourth-highest ranking University in the world.
We’ll be speaking to Ryan next week, when he will know if he has secured a place at this prestigious institution and will then be able to start preparing for the life-changing opportunity of pursuing his career as a Vet.
