All JLC international students live in local accommodation with a host family, a service that was rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, the education watchdog, in 2016. Ofsted told us that our ‘Homestay accommodation is of a high standard. It is homely, comfortable, warm and welcoming.’ One of our host families said: ‘We treat them as though they are ours’ – this means that all students receive individual care and make life-long friendships.
Our host families are chosen very carefully by the International Support Officer, are police checked and fully trained before we allow any students to move in. We visit the home first to ensure that it is a suitable place for you to live, and is clean, warm, comfortable and safe. Most homes are within walking distance of the college, but some students use public transport or cycle to college.
You will have your own bedroom at the homestay accommodation, and you can choose a variety of catering options. The student usually pays the host family directly for their accommodation:
- Breakfast and evening meals on weekdays, and all meals at weekends and holidays included – £115 per week
- Self-catering – £80 per week
- Lunch at JLC – ranges from around £3 – £3.50 per day
Once we have selected a suitable host family for your requirements, we will send you some details to enable you to learn more about them before your arrival in the UK. Throughout your time staying with the host family, our International Support Officer is on hand to offer advice and support with any queries you may have.
