Leggott Academy students prepare for the world of work!
Leggott Academy students are completing a range of innovative skills-building sessions with the Opportunities & Destinations team at John Leggott College, designed to help prepare them for their upcoming work experience placements in July.
Every Wednesday morning, the students take part in a series of 30-minute challenges, from building the tallest tower from newspapers, to body language skills, writing placement journals and improving communications with employers.
The sessions are designed to instil key skills such as teamwork, leadership, time management and problem solving, to prepare the students for successful work experience placements as well as future academic and career success. As the students gain confidence, staff are on hand to help them reflect on the skills they are gaining and understand how these make them more employable in the world of work. When they complete their placements in July, they will also keep a daily journal of their experiences and achievements and will have the opportunity to discuss future placements with Mary-Lou Chandler, Employability Advisor at John Leggott College.
Every year, John Leggott College supports hundreds of students to secure and undertake valuable work experience placements in North Lincolnshire. From working in various departments at Scunthorpe General Hospital, to local solicitors, schools and veterinary surgeries, local employers are invaluable to enabling students gain a true insight into the world of work.
