Leggott Academy Students Put Best Foot Forward for Charity

Almost 50 Leggott Academy students yesterday completed a 5km Race for Life.
The Year 10 students lined up alongside several members of Leggott Academy staff before completing the course under clear blue skies. Conditions could not have been better for the event, with the sun shining and not a breath of wind in the air to hinder the progress of all taking part.
The course was marked out by experienced runner and John Leggott PE Teacher Scott Mitchell and undulated enough to challenge the fittest of runners, but also enable all abilities to take part.
Participants were encouraged to run, jog or walk the 5km distance, with participation being the main concern. Competitive runners Blake and Holly, were unable to resist the urge to race and finished as the first placed boy and girl.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant Nicki Boidol helped to organise the event and ran the course herself. At the finish she was extremely proud of the effort put in by all participants.
“I am so proud of every single person that took part in the Race for Life 5k run, every student gave it their all! Whether they ran, jogged or walked – they did an amazing job! The whole PE department have been amazing as well, helping with the organisation and planning of the event.”
Donations are still being collected, but the amount is on track to smash the £200 barrier by the Friday morning deadline.
The challenge further strengthened the sense of community that the Leggott Academy has fostered in its students. All students waited at the finish to cheer on their peers until every single participant had crossed the line.
“Some went the extra mile and also helped people that were struggling. They should be proud of themselves and each other!”
