About this course

This course is ideal for students who are passionate about film and would like to study the art of film through analysis, discussion, critical writing, creative screenwriting and filmmaking. Students will study a wide range of films from different genres, historical periods and contrasting styles to discover how narrative and film language construct meanings and aesthetic pleasures. The course will also explore ideas of film authorship, the psychology of spectator responses, ideological analysis and consider how the cultural and historical contexts of the films affect and influence them, making AL Film such a rich and rewarding course for any student.

Who is this aimed at?

This course is aimed at students who:

  • Would like to develop their critical, academic skills and knowledge to go to University to study any Arts, Language or Humanities course. 

  • As well as Film, this A-Level develops skills vital to subjects such as English, History, Art, Photography, Media, Sociology, Geography, Foreign Languages and Psychology and so goes very well with these courses at JLC. 

  • Would like to work in the Creative Industries as a filmmaker, writer, artist, designer, director, content creator, etc. 

  • Would like to work in Journalism as a writer, broadcaster, podcaster, reviewer or editor. 

  • Would like to expand their understanding of Art and Culture from around the world and different historical periods. 

  • Would like a course that gives them many opportunities to study, collaborate with others and express themselves in varied and innovative ways.
