About this course

This course is ideal for learners who have a specific interest in the visual arts and enjoy the challenge of visualising their ideas and feelings using a wide range of media, including computers. This course includes a personal investigation alongside the opportunity to examine the relationship between practical ideas and the History of Art.

There will be opportunities to visit art galleries and other cultural events and you could enter your work into exhibitions.

Who is this aimed at?

This course is aimed at those who:

  • Have a specific interest in the visual arts

  • Enjoy the challenge of visualising their ideas and feelings using a wide range of media, including computers

  • Wish to prepare for study of the subject at a higher level

  • Enjoy the challenge of analysing and evaluating images

  • You could gain entry onto a Foundation Course in Art and Design, which leads on to degree courses in the visual arts and applied design subjects

What will you learn?

Core units:

  • Personal investigation explores the relationship between practical ideas and techniques with the History of Art, and a wider professional application.

  • Externally-set Assignment involves students showing evidence of their visual language and analytical skills. The exam submission includes a response to a set theme carried out over an in-class preparation period followed by a 15 hour timed test.
