John Leggott Humber

John Leggott College is proud to announce a strategic collaboration with Oasis Academy Immingham to establish a new post-16 education centre, set to open in September 2025. This initiative is designed to expand educational opportunities, provide industry experience, and create a clear pathway to successful careers, particularly in STEM and engineering fields. The programme aims to address the issue of young people who are not in education, employment, or training (NEETs), offering them structured opportunities for growth and development.

The collaboration, in partnership with HETA, will introduce a Fresh Start Programme. This transformative approach to post-16 education focuses on equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience required to progress into further education, apprenticeships, or employment. By creating a supportive learning environment, the programme will help students regain confidence and build the skills they need to succeed.

Students at the new centre will benefit from small class sizes, personalised learning plans, and direct engagement with local businesses & apprenticeship providers, including Phillips 66, Blackrow and Orsted, ensuring they receive an industry-relevant education. The programme will offer core qualifications, including GCSE English, GCSE Mathematics and Level 2 Applied Science, alongside additional employer-informed courses such as work skills and creative IT qualifications. Through career-focused workshops, mentoring, and systematic engagement with industry experts, students will be better prepared for the world of work.

This collaboration is set to have a significant impact on the local community. By strengthening links between education and industry, the initiative will help bridge the skills gap and create a pipeline of well-prepared young professionals ready to meet workforce demands. Local businesses stand to benefit from a steady supply of job-ready talent, while students gain invaluable real-world experience and exposure to career opportunities.

John Leggott College sees this partnership as an opportunity to extend its reach and deepen its commitment to supporting young people in their educational and professional journeys. By working closely with Oasis Academy Immingham, the programme will provide essential qualifications and career pathways that align directly with industry needs.

“This partnership represents a significant step forward in expanding access to education and employment opportunities for young people in Immingham. We are excited about local children getting the skills and knowledge to access the many local opportunities,” said Sara Mcloughlin at Oasis Academy Immingham. “By building strong connections between students, educators, and local businesses, we are helping to create a future-ready workforce equipped with the skills to thrive.”
