About this course

Students who have diverse career aspirations, If you’re considering careers in business, social sciences, or humanities and have not selected Mathematics A Level, this course could be a perfect fit. The course content is not just theoretical or abstract; it emphasises real-life maths skills that can be applied in everyday work, study, or life scenarios. This course is designed for students who wish to maintain their valuable maths skills, even if they do not plan to pursue A Level Mathematics. It can be studied alongside Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geography, Psychology, Physical Education or Economics to support the mathematical elements of these courses. This Level 3 qualification is equivalent to an AS Level in terms of UCAS points, making it a valuable addition to your academic credentials, it must be studied alongside three courses or a three course equivalent.

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is for students who:

  • Are studying other courses that require Maths skills beyond GCSE.

  • Wish to gain a Mathematical qualification to support their university application.

  • Enjoy studying maths but do not require a full A Level in Maths.

  • Would like to learn more about personal finance and taxation.

  • Have an interest in data analytics and statistical analysis.

Core Maths is designed for students who require mathematical and quantitative skills for their other subjects and future careers. It’s especially beneficial for those who need these abilities for a variety of higher education courses, as a result of this, the progression routes that this course supports are extensive. The course has received support from over 40 universities, including a public endorsement from the research-focused Russell Group. As awareness of Core Maths grows among universities, some are beginning to offer lower grade requirements to applicants who have studied this subject.
