Enrichment is everything you do at college beyond your courses. At JLC in Scunthorpe you can choose from 68 activities across six pathways, from Model United Nations and JLC Wolves basketball to First Aid and the Student Council, plus drop-in social clubs. Sign up to as many as you like.

How does enrichment work at JLC?
Choose activities from any of our six pathways, and drop into our social clubs whenever you like. All students are expected to take part in at least one enrichment during their time at JLC, and you can sign up to as many as you're interested in.

Our enrichments are grouped into six pathways to support your personal and professional development. Pick the ones that match your interests, values and future goals. You're not limited to one, so mix and match from any pathway.
Scholars
Academic Excellence
For students aiming for top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group universities and Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science.
Professional
Careers and Industry
For students interested in law, teaching, economics, engineering, STEM or business, or thinking about an apprenticeship.
Creative
Arts, Media and Performance
For students who sing, play, act, write, draw, make films or game, from beginners to experienced performers.
Active and Athlete

For everyone from beginners who want to stay active to players who want to represent JLC.

For students who want to represent others, mentor, volunteer, campaign or lead.

What enrichment activities can I do?
Choose a pathway to see its activities, when they run and where to find them. Times are for 2026-27 and may change. When you sign up, we'll email you the details for each activity.
Scholars Pathway
Academic Excellence. For students aiming for top universities and other competitive destinations. Some Scholars enrichments are invite-only, and eligibility depends on your GCSE grades.
Aspire MDV
Invite only
Specialist support for students applying for Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science, including admissions tests, work experience and interviews.
Aspire Oxbridge
GCSE average grade 7+
A structured programme for students applying to Oxford or Cambridge. Build confidence in academic discussion and wider reading, and prepare for admissions tests, personal statements and interviews.
Russell Group Early Applicants
Invite only
Support for students applying early to Russell Group universities and other competitive courses.
Maths Ascension Programme
Invite only
Tackle advanced problems and explore mathematical ideas beyond A Level. Ideal preparation for maths competitions, university study and maths-rich careers.
Physics Masterclass and Olympiad

Chemistry High Flyers and Olympiad

ENJOYMENT AND INTERESTS
Can I start my own club?
Yes. Our Enrichment team helps students set up and run their own clubs, so if something you like is missing, you can start it. Students already run groups from Dungeons & Dragons to SAGE, our LGBTQIA+ society.

Everything you need to know about enrichment at JLC, from signing up to choosing your pathway.
Enrichment is everything you do beyond your courses. At John Leggott College there are 68 activities across six pathways, plus drop-in social clubs, helping you build skills, confidence and friendships.
All students are expected to take part in at least one enrichment during their time at JLC. Beyond that, you can join as many activities as you like.
Scholars (Academic Excellence), Professional (Careers and Industry), Creative (Arts, Media and Performance), Active and Athlete (Sport and Performance), Leadership and Social Impact (Leadership, Responsibility and Impact) and Wellbeing (Health and Wellbeing).
Complete our short Google form, choosing as many activities as you like, and we’ll email you the details of each one. You can also visit the Enrichment Base upstairs in The ARC or email enrichments@leggott.ac.uk.
Most run at lunchtime, in free periods or on Wednesday afternoons. Some, like the JLC Steel esports team, run after college. The social space in The ARC is open every day.
Yes. Universities and employers value well-rounded applicants. Enrichment gives you experiences and skills to write about, and some activities lead to recognised qualifications, such as First Aid and Sign Language.
That’s completely normal. You can choose activities from any pathway, drop into The ARC, or talk to our Enrichment team, who will help you find something that fits.
Enrichment gives you real experience of the careers you’re interested in, alongside your studies. Depending on the activities you choose, you could meet employers, work on real briefs, visit universities, gain work experience or earn a recognised qualification. For example, Future Lawyers includes court visits and guest speakers, and Future Teachers gives you school experience with Lincoln Bishop University. Future STEM Professionals sets challenges with STEM employers, and the Future Apprentice Programme helps you search for vacancies and prepare for interviews. It all gives you something to talk about in personal statements, applications and interviews. To find the right activities for your plans, book an appointment with our Careers team.
Yes. If something you’re interested in is missing, our Enrichment team will help you set it up. Students already run groups such as SAGE, our LGBTQIA+ society. Visit the Enrichment Base in The ARC or email enrichments@leggott.ac.uk with your idea.
No. Most activities are open to complete beginners, from badminton and table tennis to choir and book club. A few have entry requirements: some Scholars activities are invite-only, and the AoC college teams may hold trials. Each activity card shows this.

Extracurricular Activities
Our enrichment programme covers a wide range of extracurricular activities and career focused sesions which aim to enhance the learner experience.
Our enrichment programme gives students the chance to meet like-minded people, explore new interests, and step out of their comfort zones in a safe, supportive environment. From trying new activities to building on existing skills, there’s something for everyone. We offer two strands of enrichment, extracurricular enrichment which focuses on hobbies, societies, and creative outlets and Upskill enrichment which is designed to support personal growth and future career development. Our students also take part in local community projects, educational trips, and recreational visits. We encourage learners to shape their own JLC experience by joining, leading, or even creating their own societies!

Updated annually to reflect emerging trends and student feedback, our enrichment activities ensure there is always something exciting and relevant for everyone!
Students participate in at least one enrichment activity that complements their chosen academic courses, providing valuable skills and experiences to support future progression. Whether your pathway is to university, apprenticeships or employment, our enrichment options are tailored to enhance your personal development, teamwork, leadership, and practical abilities.
Our wide-ranging enrichment programme includes activities such as sports clubs, creative arts workshops, volunteering opportunities, leadership training, and STEM challenges - all designed to build confidence and broaden your skillset beyond the classroom.
We strongly encourage all students to engage actively in the enrichment provision. It’s a fantastic way to explore new interests, develop transferable skills, and connect with like-minded peers, helping you to build a well-rounded CV and stand out in your next steps.
Upskill
Every Wednesday afternoon, students will take part in Enrichment Upskill. The Upskill programme aims to give students meaningful interactions with business & industry to help them make informed decisions about their future. During Upskill, learners can expect to hear from guest speakers, take part in industry set projects, participate in workshops and much more!
Students will be allocated an Upskill group which is complimentary to their programme of study, providing guidance on possible future career pathways.
