John Leggott Humber is a new post-16 education centre in collaboration with Oasis Academy Immingham and HETA.

John Leggott Humber provides a transformative Fresh Start Programme for students who were unsuccessful in securing their Maths & English GCSEs at a grade 4 or above.

This single pathway allows students to gain their GCSE English, GCSE Mathematics and Level 2 Applied Science qualifications, alongside additional qualifications developed with employer input such as work skills and creative IT. Students will take part in career-focused workshops, receive mentoring and gain hands-on skill development, with systematic engagement from industry experts preparing students for the world of work.

What is John Leggott Humber?

John Leggott Humber is a collaboration between John Leggott College, Oasis Academy Immingham and HETA to support young people in and around Immingham to secure a successful fututre.

JLH offers students an opportunity to develop themselves as an individual whilst achieving important qualifications. Taught by expert teachers, these courses directly relate to successful progression into employment or apprenticeship opportunities and include Level 2 Work skills and Level 2 Creative IT, GCSE English, GCSE Mathematics and Level 2 Applied Science.

Whilst studying, students will  gain industry relevant skills and knowledge to progress onto positive destinations​. The one year programme focuses on preparing students for employment or further study - with links to major local employment and training agencies to enhance future career opportunities.​

Who should apply?

John Leggott Humber is for students who did not meet the expected criteria to progress into a Level 3 qualification or apprenticeship. The programme is aimed at:

  • Hands on learners who want to gain real-life work experience and access to industry as they gain their core qualifications

  • Students who are ready to develop their skills to secure a future apprenticeships or employment

  • Learners who need a structured and supportive learning environment with access to expert guidance on your career progression 

  • Students who would like to have a wide range of opportunities to develop their employability skills with guaranteed work experience placements

Enrichment Opportunities

Students will have lessons at the John Leggott Humber site in Immingham every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Every Wednesday, students will be taken to the John Leggott College site in Scunthorpe by bus to use specialist science facilities and take part in Upskill, the John Leggott enrichment programme.

As part of Upskill, students are able to take part in extracurricular activities. John Leggott offers a wide variety of enrichment opportunities, including popular subject areas like Sport and Media.

 

All JLH students receive free transport on a Wednesday to take part in their enrichment programme and are able to use all facilities and social spaces at John Leggott College. They also have access to appointments with the John Leggott Careers Team, Work Opportunities Officer and Wellbeing Team.
