Student Accommodation

JLC Crest

Where will you live?

International students studying in the UK at John Leggott will live locally in one of our fantastic accommodation options

All international students at John Leggott College have access to high-quality, safe, and supportive accommodation. We are proud to offer three excellent living options designed to suit different levels of independence and student preference: Homestay accommodation, our brand-new 18+ Student Accommodation, and our new partnership with St James’ Boarding School in Grimsby.

Choosing accommodation

At John Leggott College, every international student can choose the accommodation that best suits their needs and level of independence.

Students may:

  • Spend both years living with a host family, enjoying a supportive home environment throughout their studies.

  • Begin their studies in Homestay accommodation during their first year, then

  • Move into the 18+ Student Accommodation in their second year to prepare for university life.

  • Or choose the traditional boarding experience at St James’ School for a structured, community-based lifestyle.

Whatever the choice, all accommodation options are safe, welcoming and designed to help students thrive both academically & personally during their time at John Leggott College.

Homestay accommodation

Most of our international students live in Homestay accommodation, staying with one of our carefully selected host families. This service was rated Outstanding by OFSTED (2023), who confirmed that our Homestay provision is of a high standard while being safe, comfortable, and welcoming.

Our host families make students part of their household during their time at John Leggott College. Many students form lifelong friendships and stay in touch with their hosts after leaving. Once a student is matched with a family, we share their details so that students can get to know them before arrival.

Staying with a host family helps students immerse themselves in British culture, gain confidence, and practice their English daily. Families often take students to local places of interest and support them as they settle into life in the UK.

All host families are fully DBS checked, trained, and visited by the college before students move in. Homes are within an hour of the college by bus, with most within walking or cycling distance. Each student has their own room, and individualised care is provided to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

Homestay can be catered (breakfast and evening meal on weekdays, all meals at weekends) or self-catered. During college hours, students can enjoy a variety of hot and cold meals available in our modern dining areas.

Weekly Fees:

  • Catered: £175 per week

  • Self-Catered: £145 per week

Students staying for 26 weeks (180 days) pay a £200 College Guardianship Fee and a £250 Refundable Security Deposit.

  • 26 Weeks: £5,000 Catered | £4,220 Self-Catered

  • Total (including fees): £5,450 Catered | £4,670 Self-Catered

Students staying for 47 weeks pay a £200 College Guardianship Fee and a £250 Refundable Security Deposit.

  • 47 Weeks: £8,225 Catered | £6,815 Self-Catered

  • Total (including fees): £8,675 Catered | £7,265 Self-Catered

The Guardianship Fee includes:

  • Allocating and vetting host families

  • Annual visits and safeguarding checks

  • Support with all accommodation enquiries

If a student is away for one week or more, 50% of that week’s fee is refunded at the end of the academic year. The refundable deposit covers any accidental damage, with the remainder refunded at year end.

18+ Accommodation

From September 2026, John Leggott College will offer a brand-new Student Accommodation option for learners aged 18 and above. This modern 10-room residence provides a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for students ready for a more independent living experience.

Each student will have a private bedroom and access to shared communal spaces that encourage social interaction and the development of key life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and time management.

Students will receive breakfast at the College each day (included in the weekly cost of £175), and prepare their own lunches and dinners during the week, as well as all meals at weekends. This balance allows students to gain independence while still having structure and support.

This option is ideal for students who wish to transition from Homestay in Year 1 to a more independent environment in Year 2, preparing them for university life.

Weekly Fee: £175 (includes breakfast at College)

St James’ Boarding School Partnership

We are delighted to announce our new accommodation partnership with St James’ School in Grimsby, a traditional private boarding school located around 35 minutes from John Leggott College.

St James’ has a long and proud tradition of boarding, offering a warm and family-like community with students from around the world. The school provides a structured, supportive environment with proactive houseparents and a strong emphasis on both academic success and personal growth. The boarding house is close to public transport and within walking distance of the beach, offering a unique and enjoyable living experience.

This traditional boarding option provides students with the opportunity to live in a close-knit community while attending John Leggott College. A daily bus to and from college is included.

Weekly Fee: £175 per week (includes breakfast, lunch at JLC, and evening meals cooked by students)
