Aerospace Engineering

At John Leggott College, we are always looking for opportunities to inspire our students and connect their learning with real-world experiences. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming the British Aerospace Careers Programme (ACP) to our campus for an exciting and interactive workshop. The event brought together both our John Leggott College and John Leggott Humber students for a day filled with hands-on activities, expert advice and insights into one of the most dynamic industries in the world.

The Aerospace Careers Programme is designed to spark young people’s interest in technology and innovation, while offering guidance and support for those considering future careers in aerospace, aviation, space, and related engineering sectors. By giving students a closer look at these industries, the programme aims to show just how varied and exciting the opportunities are - from aircraft design and space exploration to robotics and artificial intelligence.

During the session, students had the chance to experience a flight simulator and step into the virtual world through state-of-the-art VR headsets, providing a realistic insight into what it’s like to work in modern aerospace environments. One of the highlights of the day was meeting Spot, the chief robotics officer, an advanced robot designed to demonstrate how AI and robotics are transforming the way technology is used in engineering. These hands-on experiences allowed students to see innovation in action and imagine how the skills they’re developing at JLC could one day shape the future of global technology.

Throughout the event, representatives from the British Aerospace Careers Programme shared fascinating insights into how the aerospace industry continues to evolve. Students learned about the current developments in artificial intelligence, engineering, and sustainability, as well as the exciting possibilities for future advancements. They also explored the wide range of career pathways available, from apprenticeships and vocational training to university degrees and research roles.

For our international students, many of whom come from countries such as China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and beyond, the event provided a valuable glimpse into the strength of the UK’s technology and engineering sectors. It also showed how education at John Leggott College prepares students for global opportunities, giving them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue ambitious STEM careers anywhere in the world.

The visit from the Aerospace Careers Programme perfectly reflects our commitment to providing enriching experiences that go beyond the classroom. By connecting students with industry professionals, innovative technologies and career pathways, we aim to empower every learner to explore their potential and imagine their future. A huge thank you to the Schools' Aerospace Careers Programme for visiting us!
