Student Visas
Choosing to study in the UK is an exciting step, and at John Leggott College, we guide international students through every stage of the process.
If you need permission to study in the UK, you will usually need a Student Visa, which allows you to live and study in the country for the duration of your course.
Our International Team has nearly 40 years of experience supporting students from around the world, ensuring a smooth and successful study experience from first enquiry to arrival.
JLC’s Student Visa Sponsorship Licence
JLC holds an official Student Visa Sponsorship Licence granted by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). This licence allows us to enrol international students and issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to eligible applicants.
Being a licensed sponsor means that JLC:
Meets strict government standards for quality, safeguarding, and student support
Can sponsor international students aged 16 and above for full-time Level 3 study (e.g., A Levels, BTECs)
Monitors attendance, academic engagement, and welfare
Students also have responsibilities, including attending lessons, updating contact details, and complying with visa conditions. Sponsorship is therefore a partnership between the College and the student.
Who Can JLC Sponsor?
John Leggott College can sponsor international students who:
Are 16 or over at the start of their course
Have an offer to study a full-time Level 3 programme (A Levels, BTEC, etc.)
Meet the College’s academic and English language entry requirements
Can demonstrate they meet UKVI financial and documentation requirements
We can normally sponsor students for the full length of their study programme, typically up to 2 years for Level 3 courses. Visa length is determined by UKVI and linked to the dates on your CAS.
Understanding CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies)
A CAS is a digital record created by JLC in the UKVI system once you meet all requirements to join your course. It includes:
Your personal details and passport information
Programme of study and fees
Immigration information required for your Student Visa
You will receive a CAS Statement containing your unique CAS number and all information needed for your visa application.
You only receive your CAS after:
Accepting your offer
Meeting academic or English conditions
Paying your deposit
Submitting all required supporting documents
Our team carefully checks all CAS details to ensure your visa application proceeds as smoothly as possible.
Important Considerations
Sponsorship does not guarantee a visa; only UKVI can make the final decision
Sponsorship does not allow JLC to provide immigration advice beyond legal limits
Visa conditions still apply, such as restrictions for students under 18 or those studying at further education level
If you stop attending or withdraw, your visa may no longer be valid
John Leggott College supports students throughout their studies by monitoring attendance and academic engagement to help ensure a positive and successful experience in the UK.
