Army Residential Week
Army Residential Week
Our Year 1 Uniformed Protective Services students recently took part in an unforgettable four day Army residential experience at Chetwynd Barracks in Chilwell, giving them a real taste of what life as a soldier is like. Throughout the week, students met trained soldiers, learnt about different roles within the British Army, and had the opportunity to ask questions about careers, training and day-to-day responsibilities. This first-hand insight not only helped them understand the wide range of opportunities available in the Armed Forces but also allowed them to experience the discipline, teamwork, and resilience required from serving personnel.
One of the most memorable parts of the trip was the overnight camping experience, where students worked together under the guidance of experienced soldiers to build confidence, independence and essential field craft skills. They also tested their aim in an indoor shooting range, which quickly became one of the standout activities of the week, giving learners the chance to challenge themselves using specialist equipment in a safe and controlled environment. Alongside this, students took part in drills and a range of physical and problem-solving challenges designed to strengthen communication, leadership and teamwork. Every activity was supported by highly skilled soldiers who shared their expertise and encouraged students to push their limits while learning new techniques.
The Army residential at Chetwynd Barracks proved to be an inspiring and motivating experience for our Year 1 Uniformed Protective Services students. The skills, knowledge, and confidence they gained throughout the four day trip will support them in their future studies and in any protective services career they choose to pursue, whether that is within the Army, Police, Fire Service or another pathway.
