John Leggott College Students Secure Forrester Boyd Work Placements
Two John Leggott College students, Harry Collins and Oliver Abbott, have been offered work experience placements with Forrester Boyd, a chartered accountancy firm based in Scunthorpe.
The offers follow a structured careers programme that took students from CV workshops through to Forrester Boyd's own interview process. One placement will run over Summer 2026, with the second scheduled for the October half term.
How did JLC prepare students for the Forrester Boyd application process?
JLC prepared students through a combination of CV workshops, cover letter coaching and staff presentations built around the realities of accountancy apprenticeship applications.
The sessions drew on the expertise of Chantelle Rogers and Alex Shreeve at Forrester Boyd, who worked directly with students to produce application materials that would stand up to a professional employer's scrutiny.
Mike Hall, JLC's Finance Manager, also delivered presentations to students, drawing on his own background working at Forrester Boyd before joining the college.

What did the Forrester Boyd interview process involve?
The process began with preliminary interviews held at JLC, followed by mock interviews delivered by Forrester Boyd staff, before three students were shortlisted for a final interview.
That final stage gave shortlisted students the chance to compete for a two-week work experience placement.
Which students were offered placements, and when will they take place?
Forrester Boyd offered work experience placements to Harry Collins and Oliver Abbott, with one placement running in Summer 2026 and the other during the October half term.
Mike Hall reflected on the outcome:
"It has been a pleasure to work with my former colleagues at Forrester Boyd in supporting our students to become application-ready. Drawing on the expertise of Chantelle Rogers and Alex Shreeve, students developed the skills to produce high-quality CVs and cover letters, giving them the best possible chance of securing accountancy apprenticeships. The programme then progressed to mock interviews delivered by Forrester Boyd, with three students shortlisted for a final interview and the opportunity to secure work experience. I am incredibly proud of how our students conducted themselves throughout and very grateful to Forrester Boyd for offering two students work experience placements."
JLC continues to work with employers across North Lincolnshire to build similar routes into accountancy, finance and other professional apprenticeships for the 2026-27 academic year.
FAQ Section
What is the difference between an apprenticeship and a work experience placement?
An apprenticeship combines paid employment with structured training toward a recognised qualification, while work experience is a short, unpaid placement focused on exposure to a workplace. Apprenticeship routes, including in accountancy, are listed alongside eligibility and funding details on the government's official service.
Can sixth form students apply for an accountancy apprenticeship straight after their A-Levels?
Yes, Level 3 accountancy apprenticeships are open to school and college leavers and combine paid work with study toward a professional qualification. Students can search live vacancies directly through the government's apprenticeship finder [Cite: Find an Apprenticeship - findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk].
How does JLC support students applying for apprenticeships and work experience?
JLC runs dedicated CV workshops, mock interviews and employer-led presentations, often in partnership with local businesses such as Forrester Boyd. This practical preparation sits within the college's broader post-16 careers programme, which supports students weighing apprenticeships, work experience and university progression at both 16 and 18.
