JLC Open Event Welcomes 1,900

Over 1,900 visitors came to John Leggott College’s first Open Evening of 2026/27.

More than 1,900 people came to John Leggott College on Thursday 8 October for the first Open Evening of 2026/27. Between 5pm and 8pm, the Scunthorpe campus was full of prospective students and families. They moved between departments, talked to teachers and asked current students what college life is really like.

If you missed it, or want to come back with more questions, the next open event is on Saturday 7 November 2026, from 10am to 1pm.

What did visitors do at the John Leggott College Open Evening?

They spoke to the people who would actually teach them. Every subject’s teachers were in their own departments for the evening. Visitors could ask about course content, assessment and how subjects fit together, while JLC’s student ambassadors showed families around the campus.

For many Year 11 students, this is the first chance to compare a course list with a teacher explaining what the first term involves.

When is the next open event at JLC, and do I need to book?

The next open event is Saturday 7 November 2026, 10am to 1pm, and you should book a place through JLC’s open events page. A Saturday morning suits families who couldn’t make a weekday evening. It also gives anyone who came on 8 October the chance to visit departments they didn’t reach.

There’s a third event on Thursday 11 February 2027, from 5pm to 8pm. You can come to as many of the three as you like.

What’s worth asking at the next open event?

Start with the subjects you’re considering, then ask about anything that will shape your day-to-day life at college. Before you come, look through the full range of A-Level, vocational and T-Level courses so you can go straight to the departments that matter most to you.

Parents and carers often want to know how students will get to college each day. The college’s transport information covers routes in from across North Lincolnshire. Staff on the day can talk through anything that isn’t covered there.
