JLH Application Packs Have Been Sent: Here Is What to Do If Yours Has Arrived

If you have received a John Leggott Humber application pack through your door, you are one step closer to a programme that could genuinely change the direction of your future.

This post explains what the pack is, what to do with it, and why it is worth taking the time to fill it in now rather than leaving it for later.

What Is the JLH Application Pack?

The application pack is the first practical step in joining the John Leggott Humber Fresh Start Programme. It contains a paper application form, information about the programme and what students study, and details about the JLH team and how to get in touch if you have questions.

It has been sent to students in the North Lincolnshire area who may be considering their options for the coming academic year, particularly those who are thinking about resitting GCSE qualifications, exploring routes into engineering, or looking for a fresh start in a new environment.

If your pack has arrived, the fact that it is in your hands means the JLH team thinks the programme could be a good fit for you. It is worth taking that seriously.

What Should You Do Next?

Opening the pack is the easy part. Here is what to do from there.

Read through the information first. Before you fill in the form, take a few minutes to understand what the JLH programme involves. The pack outlines what students study, what the Enrichment Upskill sessions cover, what the facilities at Oasis Academy Immingham look like, and what routes open up after the year is complete. The more you understand about what you are applying for, the more confident you will feel about sending your form back.

Fill in the application form carefully. The form asks for your personal details, your current school or education setting, and some information about what you are hoping to get from the year. There are no wrong answers. JLH is not looking for students who have everything figured out. It is looking for students who are ready to engage with the programme and make the most of what it offers.

Return your form as soon as you can. Places on JLH are limited, and returning your form promptly is one of the simplest things you can do to improve your chances of securing a place. Do not leave it on the kitchen table for three weeks. Fill it in, and post it back.

Get in touch if you have questions. If anything in the pack is unclear, or if you want to talk through whether JLH is right for you before you apply, the team is happy to help. Email johnleggotthumber@leggott.ac.uk or visit leggott.ac.uk.

What Happens After You Send Your Application?

Once the JLH team receives your form, they will be in touch to confirm receipt and discuss next steps. You will have the chance to ask questions, learn more about the programme, and find out what the year will look like in practice.

There is no formal interview or entrance exam. The JLH admissions process is designed to be straightforward and accessible. The goal is to have a genuine conversation about where you are now and where you want to go.

Why Is the Application Sent in the Post?

The decision to send application packs by post is a deliberate one. Not every young person has reliable, easy access to technology, and a paper-based process ensures that no student is excluded because of a digital barrier. It also puts something physical in your hands, something you can read at your own pace, share with a parent or carer, and think about before you respond.

For some students, receiving a letter through the door is also a signal that someone has made a specific decision to reach out to them. JLH application packs are not bulk-sent at random. They go to students who the programme believes could benefit from what it offers.

What If You Did Not Receive a Pack?

If you are interested in JLH but have not received an application pack, that is not a problem. You can contact the team directly at johnleggotthumber@leggott.ac.uk to request information and an application form. You do not need to have received a pack in the post to apply.

A Reminder of What JLH Offers

John Leggott Humber is a one-year Fresh Start Programme based at Oasis Academy Immingham, Pelham Road, Immingham, DN40 1JU. Students follow the Fresh Start curriculum, which includes GCSE Maths and English Language resits, Level 2 Applied Science, and Creative IT and Work Skills.

Every Wednesday afternoon, students take part in Enrichment Upskill sessions with employer-linked learning, progression briefs and industry workshops. The programme is connected to HETA, the Humberside Engineering Training Association, and students leave JLH with qualifications, confidence and a clear understanding of what engineering careers in the Humber region look like.

Facilities at JLH include a free on-site gym, brand new classrooms, a common room with Xbox and table football, and a canteen. Students on the JLH programme also have access to the wider facilities at John Leggott College in Scunthorpe.

Past students have gone on to study Aerospace Engineering at Sheffield, Engineering at Newcastle, and Mechanical Engineering apprenticeships with British Steel, among many other outcomes.

Do Not Leave It Too Long

GCSE results day is a significant moment, and for students whose results are uncertain, having a plan already in place can make an enormous difference to how that day feels. If you apply to JLH now, before your results arrive, you will know that there is a strong option waiting for you regardless of what the envelope contains.

If your results are better than expected, great. You will have more choices. If they are not, you already have a plan. Either way, sending your application is the right move.
