Revision Support During Exams

Exam season can feel busy and demanding, especially when students are balancing revision, coursework and preparation for important assessments. During this time, practical support can make a real difference.

At John Leggott College we believe, student wellbeing and academic success go hand in hand. To help students prepare for exams, breakfast bars and drinks will again be available for those attending early morning revision sessions.

This extra support is designed to help students start the day well, stay focused and feel ready for their exam.

Free Breakfast for Early Revision Sessions

From Tuesday 5th May, students attending early revision sessions before a 9am exam can access a breakfast bar and drink.

If your teacher has invited you to come into college between 8:00am and 8:30am for a revision session, you may be able to receive this support before your exam begins.

A good start to the morning can help with concentration, energy levels and confidence.

What Students Need to Do

To make sure enough items are available, students should let their teacher know in advance if they plan to attend the revision session.

This helps staff prepare properly and make sure support is ready for everyone attending.

If you have been invited to an early session, simply confirm with your teacher as soon as possible.

Students with Afternoon Exams

Students with afternoon exams, or those arriving at college during normal opening hours, can continue to use the canteen as usual.

This means all students still have access to food and drinks during the day while revising or sitting exams.

Why Breakfast Matters During Exams

Many students underestimate how important food and hydration can be during exam season.

Eating something in the morning may help with:

  • Focus and concentration

  • Energy levels

  • Staying alert in the exam hall

  • Feeling calmer before the exam

  • Supporting healthy routines during revision

Even a small breakfast can help students feel more prepared.

Student Support at Sixth Form

Academic success is about more than revision notes and textbooks. Students often perform best when they feel supported, organised and looked after.

At John Leggott College, students benefit from a student-centred environment where wellbeing matters alongside results.

Support during exams may include:

  • Revision sessions with subject teachers

  • Study guidance and exam preparation

  • Quiet places to revise

  • Wellbeing encouragement

  • Practical help such as breakfast support

How to Prepare for Early Morning Exams

If you have a morning exam, planning ahead can reduce stress.

The Night Before

  • Pack equipment such as pens and calculator

  • Check exam time and room details

  • Set an alarm

  • Get enough sleep

On the Morning

  • Arrive on time

  • Attend revision if invited

  • Have breakfast or a snack

  • Bring water if allowed

  • Stay calm and focused

Small routines can make a big difference.

A Positive Start to Exam Day

Early revision sessions give students the chance to ask final questions, refresh key topics and settle nerves before entering the exam hall.

Adding breakfast bars and drinks is one more way students at JLC benefit from practical support during a demanding time of year.

Exams can be challenging, but students do not have to face them alone.
