Six-Eight Opens At JLC

Six Eight Café and Shop Opens at John Leggott College, 2026/27

The space students knew as C Block has a new name. Six Eight is John Leggott College's new café and shop, a place to grab a coffee, pick up a salad bowl or meet friends between lessons on the Scunthorpe campus.

What is Six Eight at John Leggott College?

It's JLC's new café and shop, in the space formerly known as C Block. Students can buy coffee, snacks and salad bowls there, and the college shop shares the same space.

The design takes JLC's blue and yellow and tones them down, so the room feels calm rather than loud. That matters during a full sixth form timetable, when a free period can be the one chance in the day to sit down, catch up with friends or take a proper break before the next lesson.

Why is it called Six Eight?

The name is a nod to 1968, the year John Leggott College began. Almost 60 years later, that date is now on a space students walk into every day.

JLC brought Six Eight together with Studio 93 and the team at Trinxa, building the café and shop around how today's students actually use the college.

What can students eat and drink at Six Eight?

Coffee, snacks, sandwiches and salad bowls.

Students on a bursary can use it at Six Eight. They can't pay through the college app, though, so they'll need to pay at the till. Families can see what help is available on JLC's financial support page.

For parents wondering what's available on campus, Six Eight adds to the places students can already eat during the day, set out on JLC's campus and facilities page.

What is student life at a UK sixth form college like outside lessons?

Busy, and not only with lessons. At JLC, students study A-Levels, vocational courses and T-Levels, then fill the rest of the week with enrichment, sport, trips and visits, with wellbeing support available throughout. Spaces like Six Eight are where a lot of that everyday life happens: planning a society meeting, revising with a friend, or simply having lunch.

That wider experience sits alongside clear results. 99% of JLC students move on to positive destinations, including university, apprenticeships and employment, with students progressing to Oxford, Cambridge and universities across the UK.

Year 11 students and families who want to see Six Eight and the rest of the campus can come along to a JLC open event.
