Students Play Their Final Game at Attis Arena

There are end of season celebrations, and then there are the kind of moments that students talk about for years. For the sports students at John Leggott College, finishing their season with a game at Attis Arena, home of Scunthorpe United, was exactly that kind of moment.

Thanks to the college's partnership with Scunthorpe United Football Club, a group of JLC students had the incredible opportunity to play their final game of the season on the very same pitch used by their local professional club. Walking out at Attis Arena, experiencing the ground from a player's perspective and finishing the season in such a memorable setting is the kind of experience that no classroom can replicate.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took part, and deeply grateful to Scunthorpe United for making it possible.

A Partnership That Works Both Ways

The relationship between John Leggott College and Scunthorpe United is one that has grown into something genuinely meaningful for both organisations, and most importantly for the students who benefit from it.

Scunthorpe United have used JLC's 3G pitch for training, bringing professional football activity directly onto the college campus. In return, JLC students have been given access to opportunities and experiences that connect them to professional sport in a way that very few sixth form students get to enjoy.

This is what a real community partnership looks like. Two local organisations, a college and a football club, working together in a way that benefits the people they both serve. The students at the centre of it all are richer for the experience, both personally and in terms of their development as athletes and young adults.

What the Attis Arena Experience Meant

Playing at a professional football ground is about far more than the game itself. It is about understanding what it feels like to perform in a professional environment, to experience the standard of facilities that elite sport demands and to carry that inspiration back into your own training and development.

For students studying sport, physical education or related subjects at sixth form, moments like this bring their learning to life in a way that is genuinely hard to put into words. The connection between academic study and real-world sporting experience is one of the things that makes sixth form education at JLC so distinctive.

Students at JLC benefit from a college that takes enrichment and real-world opportunity seriously. Whether that is through partnerships with professional organisations, community projects or events that go beyond the standard curriculum, the aim is always the same: to give students experiences that help them grow as people and as learners.

Celebrating a Brilliant Season

The Attis Arena game was a celebration of everything the students had put into their season. Sport teaches resilience, teamwork, dedication and the ability to perform under pressure, qualities that are just as valuable in the classroom, the workplace and life beyond sixth form as they are on the pitch.

Every student who pulled on a shirt this season, trained hard and committed to their team deserves enormous credit. The final game at Attis Arena was a fitting way to mark what they have achieved together.

Thank You to Scunthorpe United

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone at Scunthorpe United for their generosity and support throughout this partnership. Allowing JLC students to play their final game at Attis Arena was a gesture that meant a great deal to the students, their families and everyone at the college.

The partnership between JLC and Scunthorpe United is one we are incredibly proud of, and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow and create new opportunities for students in the future.
