If you hold British National (Overseas) status, studying A Levels at John Leggott College is more straightforward than you might think. BNO students do not need a separate Student Visa to join sixth form, and under-18 students benefit from a 50% reduction on international tuition fees.
No Student Visa required
BNO visa holders can enrol at JLC directly. No Student Visa or CAS needed, making the process faster and simpler for families settling in the UK.
50% tuition fee reduction
Under-18 BNO students studying A Levels receive a 50% reduction on international-rate fees, giving access to high-quality sixth form education at a significantly reduced cost.
Same support, same standards
BNO students follow the same academic and English-language entry requirements and receive the same dedicated pastoral and academic support throughout their studies.
Home-fee status in England is typically available after five years of residence on a BNO visa. Until then, the 50% reduced international rate applies for eligible under-18 students.

Why UK Universities Prefer Three Strong A Levels
Most UK universities require three A Levels, which is why this is the standard pathway for many students at JLC. Studying three subjects allows students to focus more deeply, develop stronger subject knowledge and achieve better academic balance.
For families in Hong Kong, where studying four subjects is often the standard pathway, the UK approach can initially feel quite different. However, the UK education system is designed around depth rather than breadth, with universities placing greater value on three strong A Levels that demonstrate academic focus, subject knowledge and independent learning.
Should You Take a Fourth A Level?
Students with strong academic goals have the option to study a fourth A Level as part of an enhanced package. This can support applications to highly competitive university courses where an additional subject adds value.
Our academic team provides personalised guidance to help students choose the pathway that best supports their success and wellbeing.
Start Your Journey to a Global University with A Levels or BTEC at JLC
Widely regarded as the gold standard for university entry worldwide, A Levels open doors globally.
BTECs are also recognised by selected international universities, offering a more vocational route.
